Falling Water

30October2012

One of my favourite fountains anywhere is this one behind the Law Courts. It was an unexpected surprise to see it turned on this late into autumn.

Still

Photobucket

Matthew Baillie Begbie, first Chief Justice of the Crown Colony of British Columbia (1858). There are very few monuments in New Westminster, actually. Pity.

Scales

Photobucket

Attached to the side of the new Law Courts building is a statue of Themis, goddess of justice (sculpted by Elek Imredy). The scales signify impartiality, and the sword power.

"Fiat justitia, ruat coelum."
Let justice be done, though the heavens should fall.
