On Deck

Many a trip for someone in this area begins early morning on a ferry from Horseshoe Bay. This is the view over the front deck of the ferry to Bowen Island.

Dudley Marsh - Vancouver Island

Moved inland today to do some hiking, and stumbled upon this in the woods. It's a wonder that in this conservation area that this was allowed to remain, although it seems fitting when you think about it.

Snazzy Van

More evidence that Canucks are crazy about their...Canucks. Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals tonight, and people are showing their spirit in many unique ways.

Waves

This group of young ladies are what are known as Hyack Ambassadors, and prior to taking part in the parade they were handing out chocolates to those viewing the antique cars. The Hyack Ambassador program is linked to the Miss New Westminster pageant, and offers leadership opportunities (and, according to the Hyack website, deportment, etiquette and social skills) around town to interested high school age girls.

Happy Easter

I couldn't decide today, so there are two daily photos wishing you Happy Easter from New Westminster.



It was the annual antique car Easter parade. Unfortunately, today's weather is the exact opposite of yesterday's sun and warmth. Fortunately, the Easter Bunny will be the warmest on the route with all that fur!

Mayor

Going back to New Westminster's annual Santa Claus Parade, here's a photo of the mayor, Wayne Wright.

Seen near 6th and 12th. I believe the van and building belong to the SPCA, though I think it's the thrift store not where animals can be adopted.

Steamrollin'

This is a 1911 steamroller made by Rushton-Proctor Ltd of Lincoln, England. It was purchased by New Westminster city in 1912, and was in use until 1969. Since that time it has spent time in a variety of museums around British Columbia, and was returned to the City of New Westminster in June 2010. It's now in the care of the New Westminster Museum & Archives, where money is being raised for its restoration.

Fiery

A couple more cars from the Show & Shine (perhaps I'll move on tomorrow; however, I love all of these cars!). The paint jobs on these two were stellar, and I love the happy face balloon just hanging out there. Seeing these two little cars with their fiery flame paint job sure made me smile!

Another great car from the Show & Shine show yesterday. The sign in the front window says, "Look and Touch. I don't give a S**t", a nice change from many of the other cars with their "Do Not Touch" signs on them.

Crayola Cars

The annual Show & Shine was held today. Columbia Street was shut down to moving traffic, and filled with stationary classic and collector cars from way back when until less way back when. Last night was the temporary drive in - an inflatable screen was installed in the parking lot on the quay, and showed, naturally, "American Graffiti".
