Leap!

Photobucket

With this picture, New Westminster Daily Photo will be on hiatus for a couple of weeks until the craziness with work settles down and I can spend some quality time photographing this great city.

History

Photobucket

It's probably gone now, but this old show sign was exposed after the hideous building next to it was demolished. All that will stay of this building is the Art Deco front. The rest is to replaced by...condos.

Vancity

Photobucket

I remember being 12 years old and taking SkyTrain for the first time. I thought it was so cool that the tracks went directly under the buildings.

Inside-Out

Photobucket

Reverse of yesterday's shot, as I stood inside the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and shot across the courtyard, capturing the Vancouver CBC building across the road. That's the Vancouver Library kitty corner to the theatre.

Bizarre

Photobucket

How does this even make sense? Not only that, the zigzag doesn't even join properly so someone on wheels would find themselves in a slightly dangerous situation. Another example of catering to cars and not giving that much attention to pedestrians, etc.

Overcast

Photobucket

Pitt Lake and the surrounding mountains obscured by low cloud early today.

Small World

Photobucket

Permit me the indulgence of this shot. While at an outdoor education workshop I was using a 10X magnification loupe to investigate the smaller side of nature. This is a photograph I took while studying the bark of a tree. Fantastic!

Nesting

Photobucket

These metal poles at the Surrey Nature Centre were also photographed back in November, but until today I had no idea what they were about. Apparently, they are a teaching tool that shows students (sort of) how birds nests are constructed.

Mason

Photobucket

How many times have I passed this street but never noticed the Freemasons Hall standing there?!

Makeover

Photobucket

This building was featured last summer when still covered in scaffolding. It was given a makeover from an ugly 1970s style facade to this one, of the "old is new" style. Much better.

Expired

Photobucket

Plaque at Admiralty Point for a lease on the land in Belcarra that expired last year after a 99-year term. On the trail leading to this point are bricks and foundations, remnants of squatters' cabins of yore.

Frozen

Photobucket

When humans show up, the animals freeze to avoid detection.

Beautiful Day

Photobucket

All the bits of the Quay previously photographed individually, now in one great picture.
