Last autumn two old homes were torn down on this lot. Now, it's jam-packed with - I believe - 12 townhomes. This is the centre "courtyard", and if it's more than 10m wide I'll be surprised. The buildings to the right backing on to 8th Street. How is this appealing living? I'm all for upping urban density but this seems a little...claustrophobic.

Another of New Westminster's many heritage homes. I'm always too shy to walk close enough to see the plaque where it says for whom and when this house was constructed.

I love the weathervane on the roof of this house. The turrets too, of course.

Yes, it's steep. That hill is about 12% grade! It's always amused me that one side is steeper than the other.

It saddens me to see abandoned and boarded up houses such as this one. Imagine the character of this place!

Not so much in winter, but in summer, verandahs are a blessed thing. Apartment balconies just cannot compare.

Wood you?

A departure from the typical New Westminster house is this striking modern one. Most houses around here are in a Victorian, Queen Anne or Arts and Crafts style. This one is actually flanked by two more traditional styles of home. I wonder if it's as modern inside as it is outside?

When English Ivy attacks.

All joking aside, this plant is a major problem in local forests adjacent to urban areas as it does to live trees what it's doing to this dead one. Up, up, up, then down comes the tree. It thrives here and chokes out everything. There are groups that go out and do ivy pulls and broom bashes (pulling up the invasive Scotch Broom) to try to keep these pests in check.
